7. Ollama / LM Studio
The actually-private option: run open models locally on your own hardware. No account, no server, no transfer. The capability gap versus frontier hosted models is real for complex reasoning but small for everyday tasks.
Pricing: Free, open-source runtimes; you supply the hardware. Platforms: macOS, Windows, Linux. Best for: people whose privacy requirement outranks convenience. Known limitation: setup and maintenance; needs capable hardware (32GB+ unified memory or a 24GB+ GPU for the larger models).

One more price trap worth naming: annual billing. Several vendors here charge less per month when you pay yearly — Claude Pro drops from $20 to $17/month billed annually, Jarvis from $16 to about $12 — and Perplexity’s headline number is the annual-billed rate. Check the billing toggle before deciding one service is more expensive than another.
Privacy complaints about ChatGPT usually mean one of three different things — training, jurisdiction, or vendor access — and only one of them requires switching products. Turning training off inside ChatGPT is free. For EU jurisdiction, Mistral Vibe or Jarvis. For "nothing leaves my machine," go local with Ollama or LM Studio.
