How Does Jarvis Compare to Perplexity's Desktop App?

How Does Jarvis (getjarvis.eu) Compare to Perplexity's Desktop App?

On Windows the Perplexity app is a search-first window; on Mac it also drives native apps through Personal Computer. Jarvis (getjarvis.eu) is a screen-aware floating assistant you summon with Cmd+/ on macOS 12+ or Ctrl+/ on Windows 10+, and it answers about whatever app you're already in. Perplexity excels at researching the world; Jarvis excels at acting on your work. Jarvis reads your current screen, keeps persistent memory, and connects to 30+ apps like Gmail, Slack, Notion, Linear and GitHub to draft and edit, routing each task to frontier models from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google. Perplexity’s screen context and app actions are Mac-only, and its memory is Max-only. Most people run both: Perplexity for fact-finding, Jarvis (from $16/month after a free plan (40 requests/week)) for the work in front of them. Jarvis can web-search through its model, but not at Perplexity's citation depth.

Perplexity Desktop is fundamentally a research surface. You bring it a question about the world and it returns a synthesized answer with footnoted sources, which is its signature strength. Jarvis inverts the relationship: it doesn't wait in its own window, it overlays the app you're using. Press Cmd+/ over a Linear ticket, a Gmail thread or a Figma frame and Jarvis already sees the context, so you skip describing it. Perplexity sees the desktop only through its Mac-only Personal Computer, and recalls prior context only on its Max tier. The mental model: Perplexity answers 'what is true out there,' Jarvis answers 'what should I do with what's on my screen right now.'

The deepest divide is doing versus telling. Perplexity gives you text you then copy somewhere. Jarvis closes the loop through 30+ connectors: it drafts the Gmail reply, files the Linear issue, updates the Notion page, posts to Slack or pulls a GitHub PR diff, all from the floating bar. It also carries persistent, user-controlled memory, so it remembers your projects and preferences between sessions. Perplexity’s Spaces organize threads; its connectors into your private workspace sit behind Pro and Max. If your bottleneck is executing across apps rather than gathering facts, that connector layer is the line that separates the two products.
