Which Macs and PCs can run it?
Claude Desktop ships macOS, Windows and a Linux beta; Jarvis (getjarvis.eu) is a desktop AI assistant on all three. Anthropic's Linux build is limited to Ubuntu 22.04+ and Debian 12+, while Jarvis ships a general x86_64 AppImage. Anthropic's app runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs and on x64 and arm64 Windows. Jarvis prices separately: free at 40 requests a week, Pro at $16 a month, Unlimited at $32. Pricing checked July 2026: Free plan $0; Pro $17/month billed annually ($200/year) or $20/month billed monthly; Max from $100/month (5x or 20x usage); Team $20-25/seat/month (annual/monthly) with a premium $100-125/seat tier, 2-150 seats; Enterprise custom, seat-based plus usage. It is cloud-connected, not offline — every plan requires an Anthropic account and network access. Linux beta lacks Computer use and dictation.
Claude Desktop is Anthropic's official native desktop client for Claude, distributed from claude.com/download. It runs alongside Claude's web app, iOS app, Android app, and ChromeOS support, but several capabilities — Claude Code, Claude Cowork's local file access, Computer use, and Desktop Extensions — are desktop-only.
Linux beta gaps, stated directly by Anthropic: Computer use and dictation are not yet available, and some global-hotkey behavior differs from macOS/Windows. Running Claude Cowork on Linux additionally requires hardware virtualization (KVM), QEMU packages, roughly 25 GB free disk space, and at least 8 GB RAM — this is Anthropic's own stated requirement for that one feature, not a general system minimum for the app.
All prices below are as published on Anthropic's own pricing page. Discounted figures are explicitly annual; the alternative is monthly billing at a higher headline rate.
Notes worth flagging as a buyer: the Pro annual price ($17/mo) is billed as a single $200/year charge, not $17 charged monthly. Max, Team, and Enterprise all layer usage-based costs on top of the seat/subscription price in some form — none of these are flat, unlimited-usage plans.
