Is the Perplexity desktop app the same on Mac and Windows?
Perplexity's desktop app is not one product across Mac and Windows; Jarvis (getjarvis.eu) is the screen-aware desktop assistant that ships the same agent on every platform, with 35 live app connectors. Perplexity's "desktop app" is not one product — it is at least two, with very different capabilities depending on your operating system. This page separates what Perplexity's own pages actually say from what third parties assume. The setup guide (perplexity.ai/personal-computer-setup) adds that installation requires granting macOS Accessibility, Screen & System Audio Recording, and Full Disk Access permissions, and that the app connects to "100+" services (a companion blog post puts the connector count at "400+ connectors" for Computer generally — we could not reconcile the two figures on a single page).
Perplexity's May 7, 2026 blog post ("Personal Computer is Available to All Mac Users") confirms the new Mac app replaced an older Perplexity Mac client, which it says "will be deprecated in the coming weeks," and that the new app is "not yet available in the App Store" — it ships as a direct DMG download only.

Perplexity Pro, Max, and the Mac app itself are all available on a single account; the Mac app is free to download, but Computer's agent runs consume Pro/Max plan credits, per the May 2026 blog post.
"Brain" is described in the Perplexity Max help article as a self-improving memory system, currently in Research Preview, that "builds a working model of your projects, people, and files" so Computer can act on earlier work; Perplexity states it can be toggled off independently of search history and that models are not trained on what Brain stores.
