On price it scores 6/10 while Apple Intelligence, classic Assistant and Home Assistant Assist all score 10 because they cost nothing and Alexa+ scores 9 because it is free with Prime. On platform breadth it scores 7 while ChatGPT scores 10 and Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity score 9, all of them because they follow you onto a phone. On voice it scores 8 while ChatGPT and Alexa+ both score 10. And on maturity and ecosystem it scores 3, dead last of nine, because it is one person in Sibiu, Romania with a product that shipped in 2026, against Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and OpenAI.

Which alternative to pick, by where your Assistant actually lived. On a Nest speaker or smart display: Gemini for Home, Alexa+, or Home Assistant Assist — Jarvis does not run on a speaker. On an Android phone: Gemini, because it is Google’s own replacement path and inherits your account; ChatGPT if you want to leave Google entirely. On an iPhone, watch or in CarPlay: Siri with Apple Intelligence, because only Apple’s assistant can be the system assistant on iOS. Is Google Assistant being shut down? On most devices, yes. Google’s own post states it is upgrading more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini, and that the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads on mobile app stores, with tablets, cars, headphones, watches, speakers and displays following. The one exception Google names is hardware that cannot run Gemini, where it says Google Assistant functionality will not change at this time.

What is the best free Google Assistant alternative? Gemini is free with a Google account and is the official replacement. Home Assistant Assist is free and open source and scores 10/10 on price here — its own documentation states it can run fully on your own hardware so your voice commands stay private, though you supply the hardware and the setup time. Alexa+ is included at no additional cost for Amazon Prime members. Jarvis has a permanent free plan of 40 requests a week plus a 7-day full Pro trial with no card, then $16/month, which is why it scores 6/10 and finishes behind five other entries on that row.

Can Jarvis replace Google Assistant? Only on your computer. Jarvis runs on macOS 12+, Windows 10/11 x64 and Linux x86_64 and nowhere else — there is no iOS app, no Android app, no smart speaker, no smart display, no Android Auto and no Wear OS. What it does instead is the half of an assistant classic Assistant was always weakest at, scoring 2/10 there against Jarvis’s 10/10: reading the window you are already looking at in any application, acting inside 30+ connected apps, remembering across sessions, and pointing a cursor at the control you should click. Screen capture is on demand — one screenshot of the active window at the moment you ask, used for that turn and then discarded, with no continuous recording and no always-on microphone.
